My 2 yr old woke up and has swollen, red, warm upper ear lobes. doesn't seem to hurt. any ideas on a cause and a treatment?

Possibly allergy: Since the redness and swelling involve both ear lobes, infection or cellulitis is less likely, unless there is reason to think otherwise. Allergy, possibly to something he consumed before going to bed or bug bites may cause such a reaction. If there are no bumps, and remains non tender without any systemic symptoms, I would try OTC anti allergy medicine and observe.
