Reason of taking mtx on empty stomach?

Absorption: Some claim that food can interfere with mtx absorption but I have read numerous articles to say that mtx can be taken with food. The usual case is that higher doses (chemotherapy) are usually taken on an empty stomach and lower doses (such as those used in rheumatoid arthritis) can be taken with or without food.
