A member asked:

What is the reason for excessive wind even if you are empty stomach?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Intestinal bacteria: The food you eat empties out of your stomach in about 2 hours. However, you have a very long segment of small intestine where digestion takes place. Bacteria live here and even more so in the large intestine. The bacteria use any "leftovers" that you don't digest and absorb. One of the by products of bacterial digestion is gas.
