What is the difference between the drugs synthroid (thyroxine) and methimazole?

Different: They treat different spectrum of thyroid disease. Synthroid (thyroxine) is thyroid hormone so we use it to treat people with low thyroid hormone. Methimazole slows down thyroid hormone production so we use it to treat patients with high thyroid hormone.
