A member asked:

How would you know if you had tia? what are the risk factors? is feeling confused for a split second a symptom of it? or is it just anxiety?

Longer....: A TIA is typically measured in minutes to hours. A split second problem is quite unlikely to be a bad problem like TIA.

Transient ischemic: Attack (TIA) is defined by brief (less than 24 hours) neurologic symptoms that resolve without residual dysfunction. The type of symptoms depend upon the vessel (s) involved. Confusion as an isolated symptom would be unusual. If it were to be present it's part of an entity called transient global amnesia (TGA). Risk factors include hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and family history of stroke.
