Trauma: The tongue is a very sensitive structure. If you had irritation to the side of the tongue due to a sharp or irregular area on one of your molars, the irritation should resolve within a few days. If you have a TMJ disorder or are clenching your teeth, your tongue could be irritated as a result.

Probably not: But there has to be a trigger point, a reason for your pain. Gather all the X-rays and make an appointment with an Oral Surgeon.
