A member asked:

I was wondering is a nodule the same thing as a goiter?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes & no: Hi. Goiter refers to abnormal size/shape of thyroid. Goiters can be diffuse or nodular or both. If you have a nodule (aka nodular goiter) and you're NOT hyperthyroid, it could be a cancer, and needs an evaluation for that (fine needle aspiration biopsy). Most nodules are benign when you look at all nodules, but you can't assume benignity. It must be evaluated. Good luck!
