A member asked:

What happens if your body was a hypertonic or hypotonic solution what would happen, would you die?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, you'd die: Your cells can tolerate a very narrow range of sodium concentration. Too high or too low cells would either shrivel or explode, and if cells do that, you die. Your body has many systems and then back-up systems to keep your sodium regulated so that doesn't happen.
