Different medication: Methylphenidate (Concerta) is a direct-acting central nervous system stimulant that is approved for ADHD. If it does not work after an adequate trial, an increase in dose or a switch to another stimulant is reasonable. Other stimulants effective for ADHD are mixed amphetamine salts (Adderall) and lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse). Atomoxetine (Strattera) is a non-stimulant alternative.
