Rare but does occur: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a hereditary condition commonly associated with multiple café-au-lait spots on the skin. These are light brown in color, and in many instances continue to progress with the conversion to malignant melanoma. Many of the patients develop a number of neurofibromas (benign) They are often seen as raised bumps on the skin. Occassionally one can convert to sarcoma.
