Half: humans have 46 different chromosomes, which are 23 pairs. so after meiosis the sperm and the egg end up with 23 each if all is kosher. An organism with 12 chromosomes has six pairs, so each germ sell, sperm or egg, would contain 1 of each pair, a total of 6.
