No: Gripe water can just mask symptoms and lead to even bigger problems. It is much more appropriate to find out what is causing the newborn's discomfort and address that than cover up symptoms. GI symptoms in a newborn have the potential to indicate something quite serious, and should not be covered up or ignored.
