Depends: on the underlying cause of the inflammation. Usually few weeks. NSAID's that you are taking will help with controlling inflammation and pain. When you take deep breaths, you get pain from inflammation. Thereby, you naturally breath shallow, causing smaller opening in lungs. As the inflammation reduces, you will be able to take deeper breaths, and rectify the issue.
