Viral: Bronchitis is typically a viral illness and antibiotics don't help, but everybody wants them. It's going to take a week to ten days for the virus to improve. If high fever , you can't keep fluids down go back to your doctor. And your smoking isn't helping.

Maybe viral: If its a viral infection, which would be very common, the antibiotics won't be effective, and it usually takes about two weeks to get better. If you're getting worse, it Gavin significant problems breathing,, you may need an exam and chest X-ray if you're concerned about pneumonia. Sounds ok to wait a but longer, but call your doctor if worse. Hope this helps!
