A member asked:

Can 1mos use of prevacid (lansoprazole) cause iron/b12 deficiency? or is it more likely caused by atrophic gastritis for which ppi was prescribed?

Atrophic gastritis: Prevacid (lansoprazole) can cause b12 deficiency or pernicious anemia, but it's limited moreso to the elderly. Atrophic gastritis has a clearer association and can be a cause of pernicious anemia from low b12. Iron level measurements are often changed with anemia, but neither Prevacid (lansoprazole), nor atrophic gastritis seem to cause iron deficiency directly.
