Couple choices: A carotid duplex scan may be very useful in screening blood flow, but may get a bit more information with a CT-angio.

Yes probably: An ultrasound to check the carotids in the neck for stenosis. The carotid siphon is intracranial and won't be visualized by ultrasound. An MRA or CTA could visualize that region if needed.
