Yes: The thickness will probably be ported. It's the clinician's job to stage by looking for metastases.

Yes: Depending on the depth of the melanoma a lymph node biopsy might be needed to complete the staging. If the lymph node had evidence of disease, additional imaging would be performed to complete the staging.
