White people in sun: Sun damage can lead to melanoma and people with fair skin sustain more injury from the sun more rapidly than their darker skinned counterparts. Sun protection from a young age is very important. You can read more at www.Melanomafoundation.Org.

Light skin people: Melanoma is related to having fair skin and sun (or tanning bed exposure). So all light-skinned people have some risk -especially if they live close to the equator. Melanoma of the skin is very rare in black africans and not very common in hispanics.

Fair complexion: People with a family or personal history of melanoma are at risk for developing melanoma. Fair skinned individuals and those with red hair are at a higher risk. People who use indoor tanning are also at a higher risk for developing melanoma.
