Diabetes: If your grandparents had type 2 diabetes, they probably did not get it until middle age. If you are 18, the more likely diabetes would be type 1. The risk of you getting it is low. Symptoms: urinating a lot (eg. 3x/night), thirsty / drinking a lot, fatigue, blurry vision, progressing to nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and feeling quite sick.

Diabetic symptoms: Excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained change in weight, fatigue, yeast infections, ants crawling towards your urine (they like the sugar!). At 18, could be either type 1 or type 2, but symptoms are similar for onset of both. If suspicious, a fasting blood glucose is a starting point. If teen overweight and concerned about type 2, a HgbA1c would also be helpful as well.
