Probably normal: It is common for one tonsil to look a little different or have more/less crypts than the other. Often people with "cryptic" tonsils get tonsilloliths, or "tonsil stones," and it is not unusual for these to occur more in one tonsil than the other. I would start to get more concerned if one tonsil was significantly larger than the other, especially if it was growing over a short time period.

Most probably normal: tonsils develop crypts in response to infectious challenge. One tonsil may have reacted more than the other in that role. OR that one tonsil was infected more than the other in the past, and now has more crypts. I would be more concerned if one tonsil was larger than the other.
