See your doctor: Without seeing you/your tonsils,this is difficult to answer.Infections of the back of throat and tonsils can cause pain and swelling.These infections can be caused by bacteria or viruses.Viral sore throats can be observed and treated with fluids and over the counter pain reducers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.Bacterial infections require antibiotics.Please see your doctor for an exam.
