Hydration: Besides taking your medication, the most important thing you can do to reduce sickle crisis is to keep yourself well hydrated. You need to be exceeding 80 oz of water daily. Even the least little dehydration can lead to increased viscosity (thickness) of your blood, and this in turn can lead to increased sickling and a full-blown crisis. Avoid dehydrating things like sun, alcohol and caffeine.
