2 months ago i suffered from a distal fibula fracture and a syndesmotic rupture..why is ankle still painful and has significant swelling?

Syndesmotic motion: It can easily be 4-6 months before that aspect heals, since movement of ankle or knee cause some motion in it. When the body is injured, its only response for protection is swelling--suggests you need to elevate and ice it more often, reduce use, and seen Orthopedist for recheck and possibly PT referral.

It takes time: Syndesmosis injuries are notorious for their long healing time. Did you have surgery for you injuries? Some surgeons wait up to 12weeks for the syndesmosis ligaments to heal, before they allow weight bearing on the ankle
