Conservative first..: ...is almost always best in my opinion when it comes to trying to realign cholesterol numbers in a person who has risk or lifestyle factors which can be changed. I always try to convince my patients to try conservative lifestyle changes before jumping to medications. If you're truly motivated and committed to the mission then, you stand a great chance of improving SOMETHING on a long term basis.

Dietand exercise: are important but to get LDL form 232 to below 130 may be very difficult without meds, What was your total cholesterol? try the diet and exercise for 3 months then get cholesterol panel repeated and go from there.

Unlikely: your LDL sounds like its a genetic or inherited condition. Of course exercise and diet should be implemented but its unlikely to get a 100+ drop in LDL with life style changes alone . It cant hurt to try x 3 mos and redraw but after that a drug should be initiated.
