Danger: One would never take a diuretic without a specific medical reason. It is not in any way going to assist with weight loss. Thinking that it could be of some weight loss benefit is incorrect thinking and a dangerous assumption.

HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) may not be best: Based on the most recent guidelines called JNC VIII, treatment for you needs to be individualized. Weight loss will be critical to BP control and other benefits. Do not go above 25 mg HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide); also, it is no longer first line drug. HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) associated with poor glucose control and magnesium and potassium depletion. No obvious benefit. At risk for arrythmias. The current combo ok if BP stays under 140/90
