Pain: Since you mention you do some "light lifting", I am assuming you think that might be related to your symptoms. It certainly could be. I'm not sure why you would have swelling. You should be seen by a doctor if your pain is significant or if it persists or increases. I wish you the best.

Muscle strain: It is likely that your back pain is still due to muscle strain, and Ibuprofen is not cutting it. Sometimes you may need a stronger anti-inflammatory medicine dose, or even a muscle relaxant. Cool compress may help. It is tough to be completely sure, however, unless you are examined by your doctor. I would recommend making an appointment to see him/her at your earliest convenience. Best wishes.
