Effective, not ideal: Azithromycin can be effective in treating bacterial dental infections, but, interesting, may not be as effective as penicillin for the bacteria that typically live in the mouth. Also, there are oxygen-sensitive bacteria that thrive only in deep, enclosed spaces like an abscess. Treating these little buggers requires an additional antibiotic like Flagyl.

Timing: If you had an infection anywhere else in your body would you wait 2 weeks to have it treated? I think not. Please, see your Dentist now. Antibiotics may slow the spread of infection, but will not "cure" an infected tooth.

Antibiotics: may temporize the the infection but will not cure it. Zithromax is not the best choice. See your dentist asap and do not self treat.
