MRI is pretty good: MRI is not 100% diagnostic for all conditions but it is pretty definitive for Achilles tendon ruptures. Even most partial tears are visible. You may have a spur in the tendon that changes the shape and spurring can cause a lot of pain in some cases. I recommend you discuss this concern with the doctor that ordered the MRI or seek a second opinion.
