No need to gain wt.: Your weight is fine. Gaining weight will make control of diabetes more difficult. You will gain weight as you age so there is no need to deliberately increase your weight.

BMI: Your BMI calculates out as 20.7 which is in the normal healthy range. There is no clinical reason in the information given that you need to intentionally gain weight. It is also possible that a weight gain would decrease the control you have on your sugars.
