Trauma?: This problem is not easy to answer and will require a neurologist, and possibly a neurosurgeon to figure out the cause. Because this happens intermittently, it brings up more questions about old injuries, and whether a brain tumor or alcoholic brain damage could have caused this- this is a short list of the differential diagnosis for this problem. A brain scan and a trip to your doctor are needed

Time to see Dr: There is a chance that it could be a TIA (transient ischemic attack), which is a warning sign for stroke. This should be evaluated by your Dr or a Neurologist ASAP. The differential does include other, less-serious nerve issues, but your evaluation can be directed based on the history obtained at Dr's visit.
