Nail will grow back: By "red discoloration" I assume you mean that there was blood under the nail. As long as the base of the nail (the part farthest away from the tip) is not damaged, the nail will eventually grow back with the new new nail pushing out the old nail . The damaged part of the nail may fall off but should not be pulled off as it helps to protect the sensitive nail bed.
