High glucose: Unless your blood sugar levels are alarmingly high, simply omitting concentrated sweets like candy, pastry, sodas, etc and reducing starches like bread, pasta potatoes, pizza, rice, etc often lowers the sugar levels effectively. It's best to follow your physician's instructions and see a dietician for guidance.

Lowering blood sugar: You should do some reading about Glycemic Index of foods. It is preferable to consume carbs with low glycemic index. Whole grains, complex carbohydrates definitely preferable. These foods do not cause extreme spikes in blood sugar, and maintain blood sugar at even levels. Same for fruits - bananas, grapes, are high Glycemic, and should avoid.
