Many: It isn't always clear what causes plantar fasciitis but what is commonly thought to contribute: weight, repetitive trauma to the area/overuse, poorly fitting shoes, abnormal gait(how you walk), heel spurs, or underlying degenerative changes to the hindfoot(heel area).

Overuse: Plantar fasciitis is an inflamed area along the base of the heel. Most patients with PF agree that they wore unsupportive shoes while exercising or went barefoot for a period of time, which can cause inflammation or tears in the fascia.
