Not routinely: most of the lymph nodes in the axilla are located along the axillary vein which is high up in the axilla. There is a fat pad below the vein which is easily palpable and occasionally nodes there can be felt, even though very small. If they enlarge and increase in number then biopsy should be performed. Check the arm and chest wall on that side to be sure there are no responsible skin lesions
