Hashimoto's nodule: Hashimotos thyroiditis involves inflammation of the thyroid. Often there can be patches of inflammation, and inflammation then leads to scarring (fibrosis). This scarring creates the appearance of nodules. The likelihood of cancer in these nodules is very low, and frequently these "nodules" do not require biopsy.
