Tinnitus: Since this was most likely caused by the "percussion" of the blast and the loud noise, it may resolve in time. There are some meds that can help possibly, ask the ENT. Good luck.

Ear injury : You most likely injured the eardrum or external canal. This requires the attention of an otolaryngologist. I believe the tinnitus should resolve, but it is best evaluated by the ENT, very soon.

Could be temporary: Tinnitus, or ringing sensation in the ear, is often experienced after exposure to a sudden or prolonged loud noise, such as a gunshot or even being a loud concert. When it occurs after a single exposure, it can often be temporary. If persistent, you should seek further medical care.

Agree with colleague: Dr. Schnyder's commentary is accurate in my opinion. A couple of things though that will make it a little easier to tell how likely it is that the tinnitus will persist would be to know: 1. How long ago did this happen? 2. How close to your ear was the gun when fired 3. How much less is the tinnitus now than when it first happened 4. How was your hearing prior to this incident in that ear?
