Reaction, infection?: My two thoughts are a significant local reaction or a local infection. Since it is itchy, I'd go first with the local allergic reaction. Topical calamine often won't cut the mustard for this, so I would try oral Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and cool compresses to area. If after a few doses of that things are not improving, then I would be more suspicious of infection and you need to see doc or go to urgent care.

Bite reaction: Seems like a localized allergic reaction to the bite. Watch for sings of infection (pain, pus, etc)
Try OTC Zyrtec or Claritin (loratadine) once a day for a few days to stop the allergic reaction, apply cold compresses a few times a day. It should get better soon.

Infection: or reaction to the bite. See your doctor to have it checked out.
