Probably does: Omeprazole definitely reduces the chance to develop Barretts esophagus and indirectly reduce the risk of esophageal cancer. Yet there is some debate about it. Nevertheless you would not be bale to cope with symptoms of reflux without taking a drug like Omeprazole

Helps prevent more: For those who have Barrett’s esophagus, treatment with a high dose of a PPI might lower the risk of developing cell changes (dysplasia) that can turn into cancer. Eating a healthy diet and staying at a healthy weight are also important. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables may help protect against esophageal cancer. Obesity has been linked with esophageal cancer as well.
