Gastritis is a rash: on the inside of the stomach. The stomach usually has a mucus barrier that protects it from the acid that is normally in the stomach. Many things can break down the mucus barrier and allow the acid to cause gastritis. Any stressful or painful condition can cause it. alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and pain medicines can also cause it. Acid blockers for about 6 weeks will allow it to heal.
