Is pomegranate good for ckd patients?

Pomegrante juice: Here is a link showing that pomegrante juice is high in potassium (K): www.kidney.org/atoz/content/potassium.cfmsium. Depending on the level of one's CKD, more or less K can be ingested without problems. If one has CKD stage 3 or higher, I would be very careful as to the amount of K ingested. Speak to the patient's physician for more guidance.

No proven benefit: Pomegranate has been studied for its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effect in animal studies but there is no convincing evidence that it slows the progression of CKD. It is rather high in potassium and can lead to high serum potassium in patients with advanced CKD.
