It can't : CBT is the treatment of choice for several conditions ( like complex PTSD ) and a terrific adjunctive therapy for those with many types of bipolar disease. The key to treatment of bipolar disorders is mood stabilization which often requires medications . The exception that comes to mind is seasonal affective disorder which responds to light therapy ( along with CBT )
