Gland: He's probably correct. Sometimes a cat scan will confirm and check for stones

Painful lump: Probably a partially blocked salivary gland or a swollen lymph node. An Oral Surgeon can evaluate and, if necessary, treat. A simple x-ray can determine if you have stones in salivary gland duct.
