Neuropathy: For neuropathic pain, various specialty blocks sometimes give pain relief for months. But, it often doesn't help overall neuropathy numbness etc.

Etiology: All peripheral neuropathies are caused by some underlying condition, but diagnosis may be very elusive especially in the hereditary caused class. An actual nerve biopsy of the sural nerve has low yield, but a skin punch biopsy can help narrow possibilities if pathology is found. I do NOT recommend nerve blocks for peripheral polyneuropathies, and restrict these to localized mononeuropathies.
