See opthalmologist : there are a number of reasons why this could happen some people have low levels of fluid in the eye leading to flashes this could be a retinal migraine in any event you must see an ophthalmologist not an optician but an MD for the eye. Sounds like an aura: This sounds like it may be an "aura"-- sparkles or crackles/lightning in the vision that are often a precursor to migraine headaches. They are common in women, especially after your period is coming regularly. These usually pass within 20 min, with or without a headache following. To be sure, I would talk to your doctor. If you are also getting headaches, there are good meds to help.

Need more info...: Did you feel like you were going to pass out? Were you nauseous? Sweating profusely? Tunnel vision? Could be indicative of dehydration with low blood pressure is you were walking and it was really hot and you hadn't been drinking enough water, for example. Need more info to better assess, though.
