See details: The diagnosis is established on the basis of a history and physical. Lab is ordered to rule out ordered conditions which can present with similar symptoms. Whether lab is ordered depends on the doctor.

History: ? dx fibromyalgia (FM). Tests to rule out diseases w. similar sx's. If none found causal history paramount for FM is "umbrella label" for symptom constellation evoked by a causal array (femaleness, mechanical injury, obesity, childbirth, mechanical injuries, soft tissue weakness from prolonged bedrest from disease, joint hypemobility) that varies in each sufferer. CBT: Seek a cognitive-behavioral therapist who specializes in phobias. One method they use is systematic desensitization which slowly and incrementally brings the person closer and closer to the thing they are afraid of in slow, graduated steps that help make the anxiety more tolerable. Needles/injections are part of life, and need to be dealt with effectively.
