Several things come: There are many things that can cause this pain. To name a few: atrophied fat pads which mean that you are walking on bone, neuroma which is like a thickening of a nerve, capsulitis which means there is inflammation in a joint, . May be a neuroma: You may have a growth on the nerve between your toes, when pressure is applied it fires off the nerve.
