Plantar fasciitis: The plantar fascia is a ligament that extends from your toes to the bottom of your heel. It contracts at night as the foot relaxes. If the ligament is injured, the normal stretching that occurs in the morning with the first steps causes a great deal of pain. Stretching the calf when you first get out of bed or splinting the foot at night will help with this pain.

Depends: It depends where on the foot the pain is. If in the front of the foot it may be a neuroma, if in the heel arch area it may be plantar fasciitis.
