Check HCV RNA: You may have chronic hepatitis C virus. It is estimated that 80% of patients infected acutely with HCV will become chronic carriers. The early tests detect antibody to HCV, but do not tell if you are immune or chronically infected. You need to get a viral detection test, the HCV RNA test. The ALT and AST are not really abnormal, but this is not unusual in patients with chronic HCV.

HCV: THe ALT and AST are liver enzymes. Your ALT is minimally elevated and at this level may have very little, if any significance. The liver enzymes can bump up temporarily if you have an infection or other acute medical problem, then resolves. However, a positive Hep C antibody needs to be evaluated further. I suggest seeing your doctor and having a Hep C viral load test and a liver ultrasound.
