Large baby: That type of ultrasound is looking to see how large the baby is. A baby greater than 4000g or 8 pounds, 13 oz, is at greater risk for problems. These include sugar issues for the baby, and more dangerous and difficult deliveries. Due to your weight gain, the doctor is concerned that the baby may be macrosomic.
