Inflammation of Liver: Abnormal liver function studies are the result of inflammation of the liver. Viruses are common cause, alcohol consumption is frequent cause. Even the flu can alter liver function test. Drug ingestion is a cause, even prescription drugs.

Liver: Itdepends on what you mean by 'slight'. If it a variance less than 10% I wouldn't worry about it. Lab tests can vary a bit even over a 12 hour period. Liver tests can vary because of various OTC drugs like Tylenol (acetaminophen) or alcohol. The body is a dynamic system so don;t expect static numbers on tests
